The Secret to Living Long
Researchers from Taipei Medical University did a study.
台北醫學大學的研究人員最近做了研究。
They found out that healthy habits can make a big difference in how long
people live.
他們發現健康的習慣可以對人們的壽命產生很大的影響。
Alright, alright, spill the beans (快點透漏秘訣).
Tell me what I have to do to live long.
Their study shows that eating enough fruit and vegetables, along with other
good habits, makes people live longer.
But I don't want to eat fruit and vegetables...
There's no getting around it, I'm afraid.
That is, if you want to be healthy.
如果你想維持身體健康,多吃蔬菜水果是免不了的。
The team studied five key healthy habits.
Those are: not smoking (不抽菸), not drinking too much alcohol
(不要喝太多酒), exercising regularly (充足運動), eating enough produce
(多吃蔬果), and maintaining a healthy weight (保持健康體重).
The results showed that people who follow all five habits live an average of
seven years longer.
保持五種健康行為的民眾平均可多活七年。
They also save money on medical bills (減少醫療支出) each year, compared to
those who don't follow these five habits.
The researchers also looked at each habit closely.
People who didn't smoke lived 2.3 years longer than those who did.
Those who didn't drink too much lived 1.6 years longer.
Eating enough fruit and vegetables extended life by 3.3 years, while regular
exercise added 2.1 years to life expectancy (預期壽命).
Health experts recommend eating at least three servings of vegetables and two
servings of fruit each day.
How much is that?
Well, just clench your fist.
握緊拳頭一下。
One serving of fruit is about the size of your fist.
一份水果相當於一個拳頭大小。
While one serving of vegetables is about half a rice bowl.
一份蔬菜大約是半碗白飯的量。
Sadly, the researchers said most people don't follow all five of these habits.
Those who eat only one serving of fruit and vegetables per week live 8.5
years less than average.
Practicing healthy habits not only helps you live longer, but also improves
your quality of life (生活品質).
This study is the first in Taiwan to show just how much these five habits can
affect lifespan.

New Zealand Airport Introduces Maximum Hugging Time
Have you ever saw a loved one off at an airport?
你曾經在機場送別親友嗎?
Maybe they were going to travel far away.
Maybe you wouldn't see them for a long time.
You might even give them a goodbye hug.
Many can relate to that experience (經驗).
What if an airport restricted how long you could hug someone?
'They can't do that,' you might say.
But there is, in fact, an airport which did just that.
Say boo to Dunedin Airport in New Zealand.
'Boo!'
Yup, Dunedin Airport has limited hugging in its drop-off zone (送行區) to a
maximum of three minutes.
Airport authorities told anyone wanting a longer goodbye to head for a nearby
car park.
Local media (當地媒體) reported the move is meant to improve safety and keep
traffic flowing (保持交通暢通) in the zone.
But critics (批評者) say the move is inhumane (不人道的).
Signs have gone up telling everyone about the rule.
One says, 'Max hug time three minutes'.
Another says, 'It's hard to say goodbye so make it quick. 3 minutes max.'
The airport's CEO said that airports are 'hotbeds of emotion
(充滿情感的地方)'.
He cited some research (引用了一些研究) that suggested a 20-second hug is
long enough to alleviate emotions (紓解情感).
He argues that moving passengers along quickly allows more people to get more
hugs.
The response on social media has been mixed.
One user described it as the most nannyish (過分管制) thing ever.
Another questioned how it would even be possible to enforce the rule.
另一人質疑,如何才能執行這個規定。
But another person thinks three minutes is plenty of time to hug someone
goodbye.

So in today's News Bites:
