Venomous Sea Creature Spotted Along the North Coast
The weather is getting warmer, and many people are flocking (蜂擁) to the
beaches.
There are lots of fun things to do, like snorkeling (浮潛), diving (潛水), or
building sandcastles (堆沙堡).
But while we have fun, we also need to be careful of potential danger
For example, poisonous sea creatures
Recently, people saw a very venomous (有毒的) sea creature on the north coast
of Taiwan.
It's called the Portuguese man o' war
It looks like a jellyfish, but it's not.
It's a different kind of sea animal called a siphonophore (管水母).
It has a translucent (半透明), balloon-like body, and long tentacles (觸角).
People often mistake them for plastic bags!
Its tentacles can be 10 meters long and very dangerous.
The sting can cause a lot of pain, and the skin may swell (腫起來) for two to
three days.
Some people may also feel sick, or have problems with the heart or the lungs.
The venom may cause allergic reactions (過敏反應), nausea (噁心) and
breathing issues.
Authorities say don't panic.
There have only been a few sightings along the northern coast and Keelung
seas.
But they remind people to stay safe and be careful.
These creatures float on the surface of the ocean (漂在海面上) like bubbles.
If you see one, don't touch it.
If someone is stung (被刺到), remove the tentacle carefully and go to the
hospital right away.
It's always good to know more about sea animals when you go to the beach.

Drones Can Deliver Supplies on Mount Everest This Year
Mountain climbing (登山) is a very exciting sport.
Many people love it because it's fun and they feel accomplished
when they reach the top.
But it's also very dangerous.
Mountains are high and cold, and climbers need many things to stay safe.
They carry oxygen (氧氣), food, warm clothes, and climbing tools.
A lack of equipment may lead to a serious incident.
However, this might change with new technology.
A drone pilot (無人機駕駛員) named Milan Pandey is working with Sherpas
(雪巴人) at Mount Everest.
Sherpas are people who live in the mountains of Nepal and Tibet.
They are elite mountain climbers (最厲害的登山高手) and often help others
climb.
Pandey and the Sherpas are testing drones that can carry supplies up the
mountain.
For example, the Everest base camp (珠穆朗瑪峰基地營) is 5,364 meters high.
Camp One (第一營地) is over 6,000 meters high.
It takes Sherpas six to seven hours to climb between the two camps.
But a drone can do it in just six to seven minutes.
The drones can bring ladders (梯子), oxygen, and even help in emergencies.
If someone is lost or hurt, a drone can find them and bring help.
Some Sherpas are leaving the job because it's very hard and dangerous.
Pandey says the drones will not take their jobs.
They will make climbing safer and help more people enjoy the mountains.
This could be the perfect mix of tradition and technology.

Tasty Tidbit
Do you know the difference between venomous and poisonous?
Many people think they are the same, but they are not!
If an animal is venomous, it means it can bite or sting you to give you
venom.
For example, snakes, spiders, and the Portuguese man o' war are venomous.
They use venom to catch food or protect themselves.
But if an animal is poisonous, it means you will get sick if you eat it or
touch it.
For example, some frogs or mushrooms are poisonous.
You don't want to put poison in your mouth!
